‘Carry-on’ is Netflix’s latest holiday movie. If you have seen my previous post, you’re already aware why I believe that ‘Carry-on’ could be the new ‘Die hard’. If not, I encourage you to scroll down and check it out. I started ‘Carry-on’ with high expectations based on the trailer and the promotional interviews I had seen. While there are aspects I would have liked to see different, the film ‘Carry-on’ did not disappointed. I have to say it was the best new Christmas holiday action thriller I have seen in a long time, so hats off to Netflix for it!
‘Carry-on’ is an action thriller movie that is set on Christmas Eve when a mysterious traveller (played by Jason Bateman) blackmails a young TSA Ethan Kopek (played by Taron Egerton), to let his dangerous package through security and later in the plane. What starts as a routine day quickly spirals into a chase. While the action brings back memories from ‘Die Hard’ it also adds on his own charm through the film. Taron Egerton knew what he was doing with this movie and is definitely one that I will keep rewatching as he captures the tension and urgency of his characters predicament, making every scene intense. The chemistry between Egerton and Boteman adds to the cat-and-mouse relationship that just keeps you guessing who will win in the end. The fact that they are confined to an airport adds on a layer of intensity as the holiday crowds create a sense of holiday cheer, but the viewers know it’s more than that.

The movie pace at the start may feel slow, it is quickly rewarded with lots of twists and turns. You will know what I mean but it when you watch it. I thought that I can predict what will happen next many times throughout the movies, but I was wrong. The film has a series of unexpected twist and adrenaline sequence that will keep you guessing until the very end. The movie lets you believe that you know what will happen next or how it will unfold, only to prove you wrong at the very last minute.
I have to talk about my two favourite scenes in the film. SPOILER ALERT! One scene that gave me the ‘Kingsmen’ vibe with Elena Cole ( played by Danielle Deadwyler). On her way to the airport she realises that she has been mislead leading to an exhilarating confrontation with the villain in a moving car. I just loved it! The ‘Kingsmen’ vibe along with the song choice made it unforgettable. Whilst I wished there were more scenes like this I also understand why the director Jaume Collet-Serra chose not to.
Do I have to say how incredible the cast is? Taron Egerton , Jason Bateman , Elena Cole and Sofia Carson have added their own unique flair to the film, making each character memorable and engaging. Although I wished to see more of Nora (played by Sofia Carson) in the film her character is felt and she does leave a mark on the story line.
‘Carry-on’ on Netflix’s is a must-watch holiday movie with a bled of action , suspense and holiday cheer , which makes a perfect mix for those who are crave excitement with seasonal twists. It really is a thrilling ride from start to finish as although you can at times anticipate it also surprises you with details you might have overlooked.
That’s a wrap on my thoughts. What did you think of ‘Carry-on’? Do you think it can be the new classic just like ‘Die Harder’?
