This month I had my first experience being at the BFI Film Festival,I’m truly at a loss for words to describe the experience and the incredible movie. ‘Emilia Perez’ directed by Jasques Audiard starring Zoe Saldana , Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez will not only be remembered as a unique musical but also as the very first film I ever watched at a film festival. Welcoming the director , cast and crew to the stage before the movie started hyped everyone for the movie. Feeling the energy of the cast and audience was surreal. As the lights dimmed in the theatre we were transported to a world that captivated me until the very end and more as I had to process during the rolling credits how incredible it was. The film was a mixture of emotions, humor, heartache, and hope making it a truly remarkable musical.Yes, a musical like never seen before.

The music, composed by Camille Dalmais and Clément Ducol, added to the movie an additional layer of emotion, creating moments that stayed with me long after the credits rolled. I’ve got to mention the goosebumps I’ve got during the “El Alegato”,the adrenaline of ‘‘El Mal” and the heartfelt “Mi Camino”. I wish the director, crew and cast would have taken the stage at the end of the movie again to receive the applause They deserve for their masterpiece. Each performance was absolutely stellar, with Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofía Gascón, and Selena Gomez bringing their characters to life with such passion and authenticity that made me want to see more. The movie showed how incredible the actresses are and how much they’ve given to this movie. The energy and passion of the cast, combined with the masterful direction given by Jacques Audiard who has brought the narrative to life in a way that was both mesmerising and unexpected. If you get the chance to see ‘Emilia Perez’ don’t hesitate for a second- it’s a journey worth embarking on that will leave you speechless and craving for more.
