Yes, you read that right! My first thought? It’s like Olaf got a glow-up and turned human – the resemblance between the characters is uncanny! Jack loves to give hugs?Olaf loved warm hugs! Everyone loves Jack? Everyone adored Olaf! And Jack melting? Well Olaf melted because “ Some people are worth melting for”! If you haven’t heard his adorable voice when reading that line you need to go and watch ‘Frozen’ again like ASAP!
The movie ‘Hot Frosty’ is about a widow Kathy (played by Lacey Chabert) who magically brings a snowman named Jack (played by Dustin Milligan) to life with her red scarf. I won’t spoil the movie and go into details as you need to watch it for yourself but the plot touches on themes such as loss, finding the strength to go on and rediscovering the magic of Christmas in a fun and engaging way. If the description of the plot didn’t catch your attention maybe you should know that the title is rather fitting – Jack, the snowman, it is indeed HOT.

Christmas movies can be tricky: they can either succeed in terms of capturing the audience and people want to watch it again or fail and end up being background noise as people do their Christmas chores. I can say that ‘Hot Frosty’ is a success in my opinion. Why? Well there are several reasons that influenced my opinion and no Jack being hot was not the main reason – though who am I kidding it did play a tiny part.
The film has an incredible cast such as Joe Lo Truglio , Katy Mixon and Graig Robinson to name a few alongside Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan. They all have such chemistry that it truly makes you feel that you are part of the story and they are letting you in on their relationships and most importantly their jokes. Oh, do they have lots of jokes that had me giggle more than I should have at times. The movie has a charming magical Hallmark vibe with a mix of Netflix humour and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ comedy and I absolutely love it.
Did I think that at times Jack (Dustin Milligan) was a bit too much ? Yes, but it worked out beautifully in the end. His acting adds on what the other characters are missing but need. Is he childish at times? Absolutely, but that’s because Kathy (Lacey Chalebert) has lost her playfulness and he helps her realise that she is missing out. Jack illustrates the magic of Christmas that people may have forgot when growing up or when going through challenging times. He is not only there for Kathy but for the whole town. In many ways he brings the essence of Christmas magic to the community reminding every one of the importance of being there for each other.

Besides the main characters I have to name my favourite duo from the movie: Deputy Sheriff Ed Schatz (played by Joe Lo Truglio) and Sheriff Nathaniel Hunter (played by Craig Robinson). I didn’t expect to enjoy them their characters especially Sheriff Nathanial considering what he does in the movie- you will have to watch to find out more! Their characters have made me laugh so much and the incredible chemistry between the two of them made it impossible not to appreciate their dynamic.

Throughout the movie there are numerous references that I had to rewind and watch again. From nods to ‘Mean Girls’ to mentions of ‘A Christmas Prince’. I might have missed few but I am sure I will get all of them next time. I definitely plan to watch it again likely closer to Christmas. If you haven’t seen it yet, I strongly recommend it as you won’t regret it. I know I didn’t.
That’s a wrap on my thoughts for ‘Hot Frosty’! What did you think? Don’t forger to check back for more reviews. Until next time, keep viewing!
