I thought that I don’t need to write a review about ‘The Six Triple Eight’ because it speaks for itself. However, I then realised I have to write about it to let others know that it’s available on Netflix and I believe everyone should watch it. It is a film that not only entertains but also educates , as it shines its light on a pivotal yet overlooked chapter of history.
‘The Six Triple Eight’ tells the inspiring story of an all-black, all-female battalion that work together to prove the society wrong while repairing a malfunctioning mail system within the army. The story sheds light on significant issues and obstacles that the women had to endure during that time. The resilience and determination of these remarkable women who have fought and demanded a change can be felt throughout the movie. I have to say I enjoyed it a lot and would have loved a series focusing on each of the woman’s background and their own experience during that time.
The cast, including Kerry Washington, Ebony Obsidian , Milauna Jackson , Kylie Jefferson , Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery and Pepi Sonuga, truly embodied their characters , displaying immense emotion and passion that gave me goosebumps so many times through the movie. Their acting was outstanding! I will add my favourite scene after this!

I have seen numerous comments and reviews suggesting that it doesn’t capture the essence or that it misses information. However, I think it’s a catalyst for more movies to be made showing the reality that people had to live through and the unjust treatment. I found myself reflecting on whether or not we’ve come as far as we should have and yet how much further we still need to go.
‘The Six Triple Eight’ has left me with so much anger for what it was and how it still exists to an extend in today’s world. It is not just a film; it’s an experience that opens up conversations about history, resilience and the power of unity. It is all about strength and pushing the boundaries that were set based on color and gender. I don’t think it’s a movie about finding hope; I think it’s a movie about building the hope and pushing past the limits making the impossible happen.
‘The Six Triple Eight’ is Poweful! Heartfelt! Outstanding!
